Bertrand Blier

This Frenchman is an undeniably gifted director whose blackly humorous, often surrealistic and sometimes misogynistic films have divided critics. He hit the international bigtime with Going Places, his spin on A Clockwork Orange. Blier earned international acclaim for Get Out Your Handkerchiefs, which took the Oscar for best foreign film that year. Buffet Froid marked the director's incursion into surrealist territory. Blier continued to offend, alienate and entertain his audience with Beau Pere, a reworking of Lolita, and Menage.
