Beauty and the Beast
Contest Essay 16
Beauty and the Beast remains the archetypal myth, but with modern day
proportions, and with one main difference - in the original fairy tale, the
beast is transformed by the love of a beauty. This love transcends the
beasts terrifying countenance, looking beyond the shell into the soul of the man within, a man worthy of love.
Yet, the Beauty and the Beast television series goes one step further. The
beast obtains his beauty's love, in the most deepest and purest form
imaginable, and yet remains the beast, and keeps her love. This to me is a
twist of the myth that makes it even more everlasting and timely. Love
doesn't change the outward appearance of the person. It simply brings the
beauty found within to the surface and that inner beauty is what is seen in
the lover's eyes. The actually physical countenance remains unchanged and
to the world, he is ugly. To the beauty, he is beautiful.
