Horror movies are always cooler on TV

- especially with a good host!

Herzog's Nosferatu

The long-awaited video release of Nosferatu is in widescreen (1.85:1) from a digital master, with liner notes for each version: the English-subtitled German version, and a separately produced, apparently subtly different English language version. The coffin-shaped box set of both versions will be in limited supply!

Nosferatu (German)
Rated PG; 1979; Color; 107 mins.; WS; digital master; German with English subtitles; $14.99
Nosferatu (English)

Mad Monster Party
SORRY SOLD OUT
Discontinued

Maltin pooh-poohed this '67 classic of cartoon humor as "silly" - and all we can say in reply is, duh! But will the latest video rerelease, in a really nicely decorated (with those cameos you see on our front page) box, finally cement the Phyllis Diller revival?
Unrated family viewing; 94 min.; Color; $24.95

The Zacherley Archives

The Zacherley ArchiveThe Ghost of Zacherley Present (himself) hosts a dracula-fizzy retrospective over the years 1958-9 AD, from Philly and New York shows. Live (or relive!) what it must've been like for kids stuck at home watching shows with commercials mostly geared to their parents: The Headless Housewife (caused by a badly aimed kinescope)! Phantom Fatigue (cured only by a healthy dose of Ovaltine)! Zach makes fun of it all, especially the really rickety movies they showed (movies not included - they shut off the recorders in between to save tape).
Unrated family viewing; appx. 100 min.; B/W; SP mode; $24.95

Inner Sanctum

What's really funny about these 40s double-featured anthology entries (two per tape) is, what a chick magnet Lon Chaney Jr. turns out to be! Did his dad ever have it this good? Psychological chills for fans of the Val Lewton bent...

Wierd Woman / The Frozen Ghost
Unrated; b/w; 1 hr. 4 mins.; CC; digital master; $14.99
Calling Dr. Death / Strange Confession
Unrated; b/w; appx. 1 hr ea.; CC; digital master; $14.99
Dead Man's Eyes / Pillow of Death
Unrated; b/w; appx. 1 hr ea.; CC; digital master; $14.99

Dr. Creep

... it's inevitable that this "top-hatted man of mystery and humor" from Dayton, Ohio, would be called the Drew Carey of local horror film hosts! (I see a resemblance under that shaggy beard and black and white greasepaint...) For roughly ten years your resourceful host, with little more to aid him than a few friends and lots of blue-screen, "added a touch of Halloween to even the brightest day." This is no mere in-joke fest, however, since three charities will benefit from the proceeds collected by the makers of this tape.

The Best of Shock Theatre Vol 1
appx. 1 hr., 10 min.; Color; ca. 1972-1985; $19.95 per volume
The Best of Shock Theatre Vol 2
appx. 1 hr., 10 min.; Color; ca. 1972-1985; $19.95 per volume

The Bat Whispers

The collector's widescreen edition, restored from the original 65mm "Magnifilm" negative by the UCLA Film and Television Archive, presented by the Mary Pickford Foundation! If you liked The Cat and the Canary or The Old Dark House, this chiller - which inspired the Bob Kane's Batman - is for you!
Unrated; 85 mins.; b/w; 1930; 1:2.13 LBX; $29.99

Lured

The unlikely pair of Lucille Ball and Boris Karloff are directed by another unlikely candidate - Douglas Sirk! Lucy turns detective in this melodrama, to track a murderer...
Unrated; 1947; b/w; 103 mins.; $24.99

It Happened Tommorow

It Happened Tommorow was Rene Clair's follow up to I Married a Witch, both made during his World War II era "Hollywood exile." You may think the plot sounds a lot like a recent tv series about reading tomorrow's newspaper headlines today, but this version got to that territory first, with such memorable performers as Dick Powell and Linda Darnell. The film was mastered off of a 35mm restoration from the UCLA Archive.
Unrated; 1944; 84 mins; b/w; $24.99

The Old Dark House

The issuing label unfortunately has nothing archived at its site about this once almost forgotten James Whale thriller, finally greeted as the best video release of the year. Now it's most famous for starring Gloria Stuart of Titanic fame, looking quite slinky in her heyday. Karloff glowers among the shadows...
Unrated; 1932; 72 mins.; b/w; $24.99

The Devil Rides Out

For Americans this Chris Lee classic was retitled The Devil's Bride, so no one would mistake it for a western!
Unrated; Color; Digital Master; 1.66:1 LBX; appx. 95 mins.; 1968; $14.99

Dracula Father & Son

This has never been on tape for so long, folks may not remember that the director, Edouard Molinaro, went on to direct the groundbreaking comedy La Cage Aux Folles. Highlights of this Gaumont - Production 2000 vampire spoof include Dad (Christopher Lee) being offered a gig in a toothpaste commercial! Too bad father and son ruin their new jet set life by both falling in love with the same reincarnation of Mom...
Unrated; Color; 1976; 1:10 mins.; English language; $29.99
