MOTHER INDIA

Starring: Nargis , Rajkumar, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar. Music by Naushad. A well-respected rural drama from Rajendra Kumar, who also stars. This story won many awards in its day, and was nominated for an Academy Award as best foreign film that year.

MUGHL-E-AZAM

PAKEEZAH (Purity)

Starring: Meena Kumari, Raj Kumar, Ashok Kumar. Directed by Kamaal Amrohi, with music by Naushad. A beautiful Urdu language musical portraying Muslim culture. Notable photography. London's Time Out critic was convinced by this film that the Hollywood of India could be "equally extraordinary in its own way," promising "some of the most brazenly erotic songs and dances you'll ever see."
